Chased Recurring Nightmare
Chased by a Man – Exact Same Dream of Sisters
I've had this dream since I was five years old and still have the exact dream; my sister also had the same dream since she was a child. When I dream it, it's me, and when she has the dream, it is her, but everything else is the same.
This is the dream. I'm in a house surrounded by water. I did not run into this house, I’m just there, terrified and trying to escape because I am being chased. There is no way out and a bearded man bursts up through the floor, then I wake up. It is the same dream for my sister.
Main Life Issues:
Normal every day issues.
It’s a story about a continuous threat and a dangerous intruder.
Being Chased: Feeling very vulnerable.
Bursting up Through Floor: One’s foundation does not feel safe.
What it Means:
Dreams relate to what is going on around us. If you both started having this dream in childhood, the question is: What happened around age five that first scared you and made you feel so vulnerable and terrified? You may or may not remember the event. There can be a tendency to forget (suppress) painful memories, but with that much terror, something had to first trigger the dream.
The story is about a villain who pursues then suddenly appears and threatens. From a five year old’s perspective, that could relate to an incidents like someone who was drunk, sexual molestation or some other severe, on-going threat.
Whatever the event that began the original feelings, if you are still getting the dream, the dream may have become a cue so that when you now feel vulnerable, the dream appears. Current threats may not be as scary and you may not feel as vulnerable as you did as a five year old, but the dream is now a signal that says: “Danger, watch out”. The same is true for your sister. The fact that you had the very same dream as children, which is very rare, indicates that something happened during childhood that affected you both, deeply.
Bottom Line: It’s unusual to have the same dream as children and more unusual to recur through adulthood. It may indicate that healing is needed, related to an original family trauma.
