TIPS TO REMEMBER YOUR DREAMS. You have to remember a dream before you can interpret it. Some people easily remember their dreams while others notice only a few. Here are a few hints to improve dream recall.
ENTHUSIASM PRIMES THE PUMP.You dream nightly, whether or not you remember. If you have trouble with dream recall, you can change that. It can be as simple as priming the pump by becoming interested in dreams and what they mean. When you get excited about dreams, it starts a flow, a trickle of a dream snatch increases to a dream or two and in time becomes a steady stream of dreams.
DON'T MOVE AS YOU WAKE UP.Sudden movement can interfere with dream recall. Before jumping out of bed, take a couple of minutes to lie peacefully; get your bearings before you get up. It's a large leap from sleep to waking. When you're asleep, you are in a deep unconscious part of self. As you wake, your mind edges closer to the conscious, awake, part of you. You jump through several hoops from that deep unconscious to fully awake and as you transition, the landscape changes from the language of images to the language of words used by the awake, conscious brain. That's why taking gentle steps back to waking helps you retain dreams. Dreams are like a gentle Doe in the forest feeding quietly at sunrise. Sit and watch awhile, before your movements startle it.
NOTICE WHAT'S ON YOUR MIND. The few minutes between sleep and waking are called the "hypnopompic state". Some of your most creative thoughts and solutions arrive during this transition, pre-waking time, so pay attention. Even if you don’t remember a dream, notice how you feel and what's on your mind as you wake up. As you notice those feelings and thoughts, a dream may come back to you unexpectedly. Savor the dream and go over what you remember. You may go on to remember other scenes or whole dreams. Once you have anchored the remembered dream by reviewing it, it’s time to write it down.
WRITE IT DOWN. Record dreams as soon as you wake up or jot down key phrases until you have time to record the full dream.
