A Dream is About You. A dream is a parable with a message just for you, to shed light on where you are at and what needs attention, with exact hints on how to proceed. As important messages, paying attention to dreams is like using a car to move through life, instead of a bicycle: you get where you want to go easier, faster and in a more sheltered way.
Dreams Mirror Your Life. Days go by fast. During the day, you go about your business and are too busy to deal with emotions and problems that arise. Like a walking video camera, the brain records your thoughts, attitudes, reactions, problems, what others say and do, and registers your hopes and wishes. You carry you’re your roles in life such as being a husband or wife, career person, friend and member of society. The day goes so fast that a lot of emotions and issues are put on hold; there is not enough time to deal with them.
You Lead Two Lives.You have an innerlife of thoughts, feelings and reactions. You have a second outer lifeto carry out roles such as husband or wife, a career person, friend, and member of society, roles that define your actions in the world. Your daily thoughts and feelings happen so fast that you share only a few with those close to you. The unconscious (your storage bank of memories) and its assistant, the psyche (the part of your mind that never sleeps) are an exception. You share EVERYTHING with the unconscious and the psyche, making the psyche, in a sense, a best friend. That inner life of emotions and thoughts is the "most real" part of you because, like a steering wheel, it defines your motives, who you are and what you are becoming.
HOW A DREAM EMERGES – The Brain Does an Automatic Sort and Review. The day goes by too fast for most people to sort out their new daily input of thoughts, feelings, problems and decisions you need to handle. Most feel lucky if they can plunk in front of the t.v. for a few hours to escape anxiety and stress. So what happens to those unprocessed thoughts, feelings and attitudes? The part of the brain that never sleeps, the psyche, comes to the rescue to sort and file daily thoughts, feelings and attitudes, as an automatic nightly process. The psyche can do that because it is the part of the mind that never sleeps, is connected to memories that stores your experience and is connected to all other brain and body parts as well as the soul.
At night, that automatic sort and review filing by the psyche, kicks in. The psyche starts by sorting out the day’s new input. The famous psychologist and dream pioneer Montague Ullman named daily input, "day residue." The psyche compares new input to what is already stored in memory; what you dealt with during the day is filed into memory. What you did not finish handling and still needs attention is analyzed. The psyche compares questions and problems it to past memories and experience as well as all that you know on the issue as the fastest and most complex computer ever – the brain’s natural nightly software. When the nightly review is over, the psyche sends a "mini report" about those on-going issues, a nightly memo that we call “a dream”. The memo, or dream, includes insights and suggestions on how to proceed with questions, issues and emotions. And so, we arrive at the definition of a dream.
THE DEFINITION OF A DREAM. A dream is the end result of the nightly review carried out by the psyche.A dream is a nightly summary memo from the psyche, based on a review and analysis of the previous day’s input. The memo, or dream, gives feedback on specific issues that need your attention and includes suggestions on how to handle the flagged issues.
COMPUTER PROJECTION - DREAMS AND ESP. Dreams do a nightly review of what you are doing, thinking, and projecting as you build your future. Like computer modeling, the psyche "guesses" what the potential consequences will be of your current decisions and attitudes and brings those potential consequences to your attention. If you don't change your attitudes or deci sions, predictions tend to be correct, and we call it an ESP Dream. This nightly evaluation and feedback system makes the psyche, and its dream memos, your automatic problem-solving partner.
During the night the psyche evaluates feelings, problems, contemplated decisions and directions and examines them in the light of the big picture of your goals are and what you believe in. The "end result" of this nightly review are memos from the psyche – memos that we call “dreams”. These dream memos are transmitted in the language of the brain, visual images. All items stored in the brain are stored as images. Learning theory in psychology has shown that what you remember is stored in your memory bank as images, not words.
A DREAM TRANSMITS MESSAGES BETWEEN THE WAKING AND SLEEPING BRAIN.Why does the mind use dreams to communicate? A dream memo acts as the bridge between the sleeping and waking mind because it is the only communication channel available at night. Dreams are a language of images selected from memory to weave into a story, images we call dream symbols. We decipher those images by playing a game of Charades, a pantomime game that presents meanings of images without words. Dreams use images because the brain stores information as images, not words.
