Apocalypse Causes Destruction
Using Umbrellas to Protect Ourselves from The Apocalypse
Dear dream analyzer,
I had a dream last night and I was shocked.
In the first part, I was in a bar with my two friends who are brother and sister and a third person who is their cousin. My friend, the girl, was crying. I was holding her head while her cousin took off his hat, and I saw that he looked very scary. Half his head was bald and the other half had long curly hair, and his face was non symmetric.
In the second part, I was with the girl again and it was raining heavily. We tried to find umbrellas and get her home but it was impossible. From my house, which in real life is on a hill facing the sea a few km away, I saw a giant wave that made buildings crash and covered them in mud. It was the apocalypse. Everything was destroyed. I looked down from my balcony and saw a giant hole where people were putting black coffins into the ground. Three old women opened the coffins and touched the dead, and in the background there was Islamic music, like death music. It sounded like prayers to Allah for the dead, yet I am not Muslim. I woke up.
Main Life Issues:
Love, issues that bring sadness, anger.
Someone tries to console a loved one who is with a very unusual two-faced, terrifying person and witnesses great destruction and sorrow.
A bar: A place where friends meet, where people relax and unwind.
Rain: Water is often a symbol for emotions, and heavy rain is a metaphor for a difficult situation, a challenge.
Death: Often a metaphor for change, the end of what is current or normal, a marked change in life.
Muslim prayers and prayers to Allah: Since you are not Muslim, this is a reference to different traditions and ways; it represents an appeal to someone powerful in whom one does not believe.
Umbrella: A tool to protect self, a way to be secure.
Giant wave: A sudden event that disrupts, causes chaos.
Apocalypse: Metaphor for a complete change, a major disruption.
Balcony: Being able to see what is in the distance; possibly a metaphor that suggests the dream is about a future event or circumstance.
What the dream Means:
If you live in an area that is subject to war or destruction by the elements such as parts of the Middle East or Asia, the dream can be a warning because you pre-dream everything of importance that happens to you. Most dreams are about you, yet sometimes a dream is about people or events around you. If you feel deeply about issues, it can be a dream about events such as war or confrontation, as a glimpse into a current event or something to come. However, most dreams are symbolic, and at age 18, life can feel very intense and dreams often exaggerate to make a point.
If the dream is about you, it suggests several possibilities. One is that major change is at your doorstep such as going to college or a move to a new home or city as a change that disrupts life and initially brings a sense of loss and sadness. Sometimes growing up can feel like an apocalypse – a complete change that at first feels like a disaster, though later we appreciate that it is for the good.
Bottom Line: In the end, because a dream mirrors your life, your feelings and attitudes, only you can decide which meaning fits best.
Thank you very much. I really appreciate that you took time to write me back.
Analysts’ Note: This has the elements of a World Event dream, a story that mimics recent events in Hong Kong. Students there demonstrated against a government they perceive as double dealing as if of two minds. In what has been called "the Umbrella Uprising", they used umbrellas to protect themselves against rubber bullets and pepper spray, amid chaos and destruction. However, only the dreamer can decide on the actual meaning as applies to them.
