Recurring Nightmare of Gang Rape
The Gang Rape
I'm always walking home from work when four or five guys come up to me, I don't know what they look like but the first guy says to me, "No one turns me down and gets away with it." They surround me and drag me into their car, tie me up and bring me to a woods area. The guys beat me and take turns raping me. After they get their fill they leave me broken and bleeding; I pass out from the pain and the blood loss. I wake up in a hospital bed.
Main Life Issues:
Someone survives a terrible attack.
Rape: Being overpowered, attacked.
What it Means:
Since you write that being raped is your main life issue, it sounds as if you actually experienced a rape. Though normally a dream of rape can be a warning or a symbolic story of being overpowered by others’ words or meanness, when you’ve been rape, dreams replay the experience because the painful emotions still affect you. As one of its functions, dreams act like a digestion system; as you sleep, the brain tries to digest that emotional event and you relive the experience as a dream. Though such dreams feel bad, they are trying to help you deal with those feelings and get past them. Such dreams may continue until you process the feelings. As the dream images becomes less graphic, it will show that you are coping.
Bottom Line: These recurring dreams are trying to digest the terrible actual event you experienced; it can be a good idea to work with a counsellor to help you past it.
