A Former Addict Dreams of Taking Drugs
Title:
I Used to Use Drugs and Dreamed I Was Using Again
THE DREAM:
In my dream I was with a friend and had already stopped using drugs. I saw myself telling my ex boyfriend who had also stopped to get me a fix and asked if he wanted one. He said “No”. I saw myself with the spoon burning drugs and picked it up to find the whole needle full of heroin. I began to inject the needle to get a fix and saw myself high but woke up feeling terrified.
Felt How:
Terrified.
Main Life Issues:
Recovering addict.
Story Line:
Someone sees self engaging in a practice they no longer want.
Dream Symbols:
Ex boyfriend: Symbol of dreamer’s own strengths
Saying the word “no”: Words in a dream give a clear message and the boyfriend saying that using drugs is no longer an option tells you to say no and confirms that it is not what you really want to do, even if tempted.
What the dream Means:
If you unplug from a substance that has a strong hold such as drugs, alcohol, or smoking etc., you can have an "as if still doing it" dream as part of the adjustment to safely compensate for lingering urges. The fact that the dream terrified you says that you are staying vigilant and do not want that to happen in reality.
Bottom Line: The boyfriend represents the strong part of you that is able to draw the line and say "no". As any leftover old urges surface, such dreams help you digest leftover inclinations and helps you let them go.
