DREAM TITLE: Mom and Leaking Faucet
I dreamed that a faucet was leaking onto my moms bed. She passed away 4 years ago but was alive in my dream. I was trying to turn the faucet off but it would just start running faster until it was flooding the bed. I was really concerned about the mess but mom was not concerned at all. My son was laying in the bed next to where the water was running. Felt confused and helpless. My mom passed away four years ago when she lost her battle with cancer. This was my first dream about my mother since she passed away.
WHAT THIS DREAM MEANS
The story is about how someone thinks something bad or messy is happening that could get them in trouble or is something to feel guilty about, but discovers that the person who would judge the situation does not give it a bad label. In a shorter version, one might say it's a story about how someone discovers that they are not being judged, even if what is going on is not perfect.
In some dreams about a loved one who has passed on, the dream depicts an actual visit from the other side which is remembered as a dream. I don't think that is the case with this dream. In this dream, I think your mother portrays an evaluator or judge, the person who tells us what is good or bad.
The dream brings up the following questions. Are you a bit of a perfectionist and possibly hard on yourself overall or with something in particular? If so, the dream is telling you, don't be so hard on yourself.
The other thing is that water is often a good symbol for emotions and feelings. Does it feel as if you've been holding your feelings back, in general or on a particular issue or event? In this dream, the water is beginning to flood, but nothing bad is happening. When younger, you might have been told to hold your feelings in, but now they are coming out more. The dream is telling you that it is okay to express and show your feelings. In fact, with your mother as a symbol in the dream, it is a strong encouragement to do so. Likely, some person or circumstance might benefit by you showing your feelings more.
Does any of that ring a bell?
Dreamer’s Response:
Wow...you really hit the nail on the head. Thanks. I was so confused by this. I rarely remember any of my dreams but this one really stood out.
