Free and Professional Dream Analysis and What Dreams Mean
THE FIVE STEP DREAM TECHNIQUE. Find the meaning of a dream in minutes.
STEP 3: Take the Story Line that you created in step two and match it to an area of your life, as explained below.
Step 3.MATCH THE STORY LINE TO A LIFE SITUATION. The question is not "What does the dream mean?" The question is, "To what in my life or in me as attitudes or emotions, does the dream refer?” Take the story line from step two and decide what area of life, trait or attitude that the story points to. For example, if you dream of running a in a race and winning a gold medal, the race might be about career advancement, fitting into a special dress, or winning respect for new skills. The story line should fit an actual question, problem, anxiety or issue and when you recognize it, the dream message clicks.
MATCH STORY LINE TO LIFE. Once you have a story line, ask, "What area of my life, my attitudes or emotions relates to the story?" Once you match the story to an area of your life, the message often leaps out. Let's use the example dream to see how to match the story line to life.
EXAMPLE DREAM. I'm in a garden. There's something I need to do and have plans to visit friends. As I watch, I see myself smoking a long, thin cigarette which reminds me of an old t.v. ad that said, "You've come a long way, baby." At first smoking the cigarette seems cool but then I see I look dirty and bummy no matter how I hold the cigarette or what I do with it. The more I watch, the more unhappy I get seeing myself smoking; I become disgusted and know I'll have to do something about it.
THE STORY LINE: Someone reviews a habit which at first appears fun then becomes repulsive, so they want to let it go.
TO MATCH TO AN AREA OF LIFE, turn the story line into questions. In this dream, ask "What habits do I have that seem cool but may not be appropriate?" Or, "Have I started something new as attitudes, thoughts or actions that are not really me? In this case, the dreamer would check what they have let themselves be influenced with, versus what is true for them.
DREAMER'S ACTUAL LIFE. The dreamer was a woman who had smoked for years then quit, but when friends visited, she got a big kick out of smoking with them. After they left, she began smoke on the sly once in a while, hiding the secret from her husband. The dream put a spotlight on her secret and reminded her the habit was not so cool and by changing her perspective, the dream gave her the impetus to stop smoking, once again.
