Arrested and In Jail
I Have Had Several Dreams about Being Arrested
In my dream I was running from police but am not sure why. In real life I’ve worked in law enforcement for the last ten years and all the officers in the dream were ones I know in real life. I carried my cat with me most of the time as I ran. At first I was running from them in a car then ran on foot hiding between houses, carrying my cat. After being seen, I tried to hide in a lake. I hid underwater under a blanket up against the shore; it was pouring rain but my cat was on top of the blanket; I was caught. A little later another officer yells at me about using drugs and that I will probably test positive. I angrily reply, "Test me"; he says it would probably show up as a prescription. I repeat, "Test me" and my voice gets louder and more angry. He talks down to me like I'm a piece of crap and I keep yelling "test me". I don’t know what I was arrested for.
A week before that I dreamed I was in jail along with a male friend, a fatherly figure; the friend kept insisting he was innocent and was released but I stayed in jail. I was upset he was leaving because I wouldn’t know anyone once he was gone, but accepted that I was in jail. That’s when I woke up.
Main Life Issues:
Someone runs but holds on to what is precious. Someone is treated disrespectfully. Someone is sad when close friends go away yet accepts a restricted situation.
Running, being chased: Feeling vulnerable, vulnerable feelings.
Police: What is lawful, correct.
Pouring rain: Water as emotions, pouring rain as intense, strong emotions.
Carrying cat: Keeping what is important close to you.
Arrested: Stopped, being challenged, questions about what is lawful.
What it Means:
The dream shows you feel harassed, disrespected and not heard, and as a result, you feel vulnerable. At the same time, you accept the limitations of your circumstance, though sad at a change of associates. Some officers in police departments (but not all) target staff, especially women, and mindsets of suspicion, accusation and disrespect can be common. As a result, you can feel limited, confined and vulnerable (disrespected and attacked). Such dreams likely mirror dynamics with those who act like that. The dreams act as a digestion system for your reactions, which are understandable.
Bottom Line: You know who you are, and that is your best defense for those kinds of interactions. However, the dream also suggests that you perhaps react with anger which may not serve you well. There is a breed of policemen and men who, by nature, like to fight. As you ignore their jabs and don’t react, they lose interest. Concentrate on doing your work well and ignore the rest.
