A Lady Named Sugar
A Lady Named Sugar
In the dream I was in deep trouble don’t know why. I was taken to prison and told to be careful, that a black, heavyset woman named Sugar would shoot me when she saw me. I was walking with a thin woman and others to a court hearing in the prison complex, in fear that I would be shot by the woman named Sugar. Somehow I stayed safe; I remember hiding under cars. Then my nine year-old daughter, Sugar and me were in a car and Sugar told me people could see inside the car through the back window.
Next I was with a group of men in their late twenties who were doing Meth in a room. I felt like I was in danger but pretended everything was okay. A couple of the men start aggressively digging into two separate fish tanks and grabbing at the bottom of the tank; I knew the meth would make them even more aggressive. One of the men was behind me and attempted to force himself into me, partially penetrating me but I got away.
Then my daughter and Sugar were with me again. Smoke and fire from bomb-like objects began lighting up the entire forest that surrounded us and the forest burned to the ground. Sugar was driving us away. I was in disbelief that the entire forest had burned down and wondering why that had to happen.
In danger, lost and felt deep concern.
Main Life Issues:
There are several stories. (1) Someone feels vulnerable and in trouble but gets to a safe place. (2) Someone is in a place of dishonesty and danger but gets away. (3) Someone experiences severe loss (the burned forest) which seems unnecessary, but all ends okay.
A Lady named Sugar: Sugar is something sweet, which may related to the dreamer’s basic personality. Also, Sugar is the name of the sexy lady in the movie “A Color Purple”, a lady who knows how to survive, have fun and get what she wants.
In prison: Parts of dreamer’s life that feel confining and limiting.
Told I would be shot: Threatened by circumstances; vulnerable.
Hide under cars: Not safe yet finding ways to protect self.
Young men in meth lab: Hints that in real life dreamer is surrounded by men who do what they want, no matter how it affects others.
Forest burns down: Letting everything go and moving on (as the movie character mentored by Sugar did). A metaphor that relates to dreamer’s life getting destroyed. A metaphor for a fresh start due to getting away from bad circumstances.
What the dream Means:
The lady named Sugar may represent the part of you that would like to be empowered and get sweetness and joy back into your life. The character Sugar in the movie “A Color Purple” is a survivor who encourages the despondent heroine to stand on her feet, claim what is hers and stop letting cruel men rule her life. Sugar may be the symbol of your own strength that you need to draw on to release yourself from whatever feels like “a prison” in your life, and possibly from men who you have allowed to overpower or scare you.
Bottom Line: The dream tells you that even though life may feel vulnerable and dangerous, you can empower and free yourself by letting go of your current circumstances, taking a loss and making a fresh start. It tells you that if you find the strength to move on, you and your loved ones will be okay.
Thank you so much for interpreting that dream for me. It makes sense completely and is very helpful in several ways.
