Dreams about Attacks and Being Attacked
ATTACK DOG. I dreamed I was going for a run in a forest near my house and a dog jumps out and attacks me. I do not fight and simply let it attack. This is a recurring dream.FELT HOW: Scared, alone.MAIN LIFE ISSUES: I was attacked by a dog as a child.STORY LINE: Someone who is on their own does not defend themselves.SYMBOLS:Dog: Because you were attacked by a dog in childhood, the dog represents something that frightens you and feels threatening as some issue in your life. Going for a run: Taking care of self, staying healthy and strong; can be a metaphor for daily routine, if it is the dreamer's regular routine to run. Forest: A place with unknowns; or, a get-a-way, a refuge.Dog jumps out and attacks: A confrontation with something scary.I do not fight: A passive stance, not defending oneself.I let the dog attack: Choosing not to stand up for oneself.WHAT THE DREAM MEANS:Dreams often mirror how you experience life. In this case, the dream suggests that at times, life feels scary and threatening, even though you are trying to look after yourself. The dream suggests that you may be too passive and unwilling or unable to assert yourself, which may suggest a lack of confidence. BOTTOM LINE: Find role models and counselors who can help you learn to assert yourself constructively, stand your ground, and improve your self-confidence.
DOG ATTACKS PUPPY. I dreamed about my best friend's three kids and how a lady from Social Services was there to take them away and return them to their grandmother. Then I see several white puppies and as I reach down to take one, a brown dog lunges at me and starts to attack; the dog had chewed a puppy which was dying in front of me. My friend's kids were crying and didn't want to go with their grandma and the social worker wouldn't let me take them. A man comes in to kidnap the kids, and my friend is with this man. On his way out of the house, he takes a bag of candies.FELT HOW: Scared. MAIN LIFE ISSUES: My marriage is rocky.STORY LINE: Someone is helpless in the face of the law and is attacked when they try to help the helpless. Another takes what they want. SYMBOLS:CPS / Social Services: What is lawful, what is mandated, legal protectors of those who need protection.Grandmother: Someone nurturing from the past. Vicious: Overbearing, aggressive behavior.Dog attacks puppy: Hurting the helpless; taking advantage.Kidnapper: Someone who takes what they want unlawfully. Taking bag of candies: Taking what one wants, feeling entitled.WHAT IT MEANS:The dream is about your rocky marriage and suggests that you are not in a position to change anything at this time. The story suggests your husband is in control and possibly too aggressive. Feeling scared in the dream tells you that you need to find your own strength, learn to assert yourself, and take control in the face of difficult people and circumstances.BOTTOM LINE: You may have to work at it, to find your own strength, but it will be worth it. It sounds as if you are doing your best but can't make things better because of someone around you who is overpowering. Build your strength. That can take time but it sounds as if your heart is in the right place. Get help if you need it.
ATTACK & KILL BIRDS. Last night I found myself killing birds in my dream. First, I saw a crow trying to harm me and I killed it. Then I killed a butterfly and then, a parrot. After that I got annoyed at an elderly person and felt guilty. I don't understand what that means. LIFE ISSUES: I am trying to regain my confidence, trying to get things back to the way they once were.FELT HOW: Restless and confusedSTORY LINE: Someone at first defends themselves against an actual aggressor yet continues to act aggressively when not in danger and even targets the helpless and vulnerable. OR, stated differently, one could say: Someone starts on a good track then overdoes a good thing.SYMBOLS:Killing: In this case, an aggressive act, initially in self defense.Crow: An aggressive, wily creature. Butterfly: A gentle creature, something transformed.WHAT IT MEANS:The dream shows someone overdoing a reasonable act of self defense and not knowing where to stop. The story depicts how someone lets an attitude get out of hand so that a good trait becomes destructive. To gain confidence, you are trying assert yourself and that is a valid thing to do, when used appropriately. But, doing so can become intoxicating and when it gets out of hand, it can lead to aggressive behavior when used indiscriminately in all situations. Keep in mind that self assertion can also be achieved with humor, good will and kind words.BOTTOM LINE: A dream exaggerates to get a point across. The dream shows how something used sparingly and with discretion can be good, but if it gets out of hand it can do harm and lead to feeling guilty. Your self esteem will feel better by incorporating a gentler approach. ATTACKED BY WOLVES. I am on vacation with my mother, my brother, a strange old lady and little girl. We were being held hostage in a house by a pack of people that occasionally shift into wolfs and threaten us. I am able to help my brother and the little girl out but stay with my mom and the old lady. I felt scared in the beginning but when my brother and the little girl were safe, I became really mad.FELT HOW: Felt like I was truly getting a blessing from my dead father.MAIN LIFE ISSUES: Entering into new business.STORY LINE: It's a story of how someone should be or wants to be in a place of rest (vacation home), but instead has to work and protect others from those who would hurt.SYMBOLS:Vacation House: Place of rest, relaxation; getting away from it all.Mother, brother: Loved ones who share your life; parts of self. Strange old lady: Part of self with outdated ways of thinking.People who shift into wolves: Those around you who make demands; feeling as if surrounded by strangers.I help brother and little girl: Heroic actions, helping others as metaphor for rising to the occasion.Become really mad: Finding the energy to deal with challenges. WHAT THE DREAM MEANS:The expression “pack of wolves” is often used to portray people who want something from others and use aggressive, threatening ways to get it. The dream suggests you hoped all could be well for you and loved ones. Instead, there's always trouble, challenges and circumstances that need your help. You do rise to the occasion and help, but now and then get tired of it and become upset that you have to jump in.BOTTOM LINE: You'd like to be in a position where things are always peaceful and those around you don't always need rescuing. Unfortunately, you are needed, that is your role. Be glad you're needed. In a work situation it's called "job security". In a home and family situation, it's called life. Be grateful for it. Sometimes the child in you wants a time and place with no challenges. No such luck. DOG BITES HAND. In the dream, every time I open the door to my house and try to leave, a dog attacks me, but it only attacks my hands. It gets hold of my hand and starts thrashing its head back and forth and I can't get it to let go. But after a few seconds it disappears and I wake up. FELT HOW: Scared and alone. MAIN LIFE ISSUES: My friends nicked named me JINX; I can't move forward in life though I try.STORY LINE: When someone tries to find their way they feel held back but then, the obstacles disappear.SYMBOL: Biting a hand: As in the proverb, "Don't bite the hand that feeds you", not respecting authority or those in charge. WHAT IT MEANS:The dream says two things. One is that you feel vulnerable, as if under attack. However, because the dog disappears at the end, you are not actually under attack, it just feels that way. The biting of the hand image suggests you may have trouble with authority figures such as bosses or senior family members, yet those are the people you need to please and who could help you. If that is the case, it could be why you are not moving forward. BOTTOM LINE: Review your attitudes and don’t accept a label of victim and take responsibility for how your attitudes and actions affect others. Learn to step out into life with courage and confidence. Only you can change yourself.
ATTACKED IN MY HOME. I had three versions of this dream. First Version: I was in the garage with attic door down and heard someone in the attic. I hurriedly close the door and run inside, waiting to see if he would try to get out of the attic. He did, and I ran out the front door. 2nd version: After running inside from the garage he caught me after I tripped and fell. He had a knife and was trying to stab me but I was fighting for my life. 3rd version: My kids are in the house. I run inside and get my kids and we run out the front door and get into the car. He comes out before I can get the car started and is trying to get into the car. I back up but he is still right there at my window.FELT HOW: Woke up scared and my heart was pounding.MAIN LIFE ISSUES: Ex boyfriend recently went to jail for violating a protective order that I took out on him after he attacked me in my home. STORY LINE: It’s a story of continually being attacked and in serious danger.SYMBOLS: Being chased: Vulnerable. Boyfriend with knife: An attack; a serious threat.WHAT IT MEANS:Though dreams can reflect anxieties, having such dreams under the circumstances you describe (a protective order out on ex bf), I would take these dreams as a serious warning. Despite legal restrictions, take precautions to protect yourself. The most violent attacks in domestic violence happen after the man leaves, and your dreams may be warning you that such attacks are far from over. You need to seriously protect yourself once he is out of jail and not rely on him to honor the legal injunction to keep away. Consider yourself in danger (e.g. get an attack dog, have someone strong at home, relocate). BOTTOM LINE: It may be wise to take this dream seriously and make sure you are safe. Such a dream message may not be good news, yet a warning from your own soul may be the best news of all. CHILD ATTACKED BY BIRDS. My three-year-old niece dreamed that a flock of demonic birds attacked her.FELT HOW: She felt scared.Story Line: Someone reacts to a sudden event that feels scary. SYMBOLS:Birds: What swoops down out of nowhere, from a child’s point of view.Demonic: Bad, dangerous. Flock of Birds: A group or crowd that may feel frightening to a small child.Attacking, being attacked: Feeling vulnerable, overwhelmed.WHAT THE DREAM MEANS:It sounds as if something around her is frightening her, in real life. She may be a sensitive child and react with fear to experiences that are new or different. What she reacts to not actually be scary or serious. It can relate to a friends or family member who is not gentle or something new that she does not understand yet. If she is sensitive by nature, she may feel overwhelmed in crowds such as at a shopping center. BOTTOM LINE: Having an occasional nightmare is normal for a child, reflecting the fears and sensitivities they are not yet able to verbalize. Just be there for her as an example of caring and strength and she will be fine.
LION ATTACKS MY SON. I looked through my kitchen door and see a lion in my garden. I shut the door and run into my living room and asked my husband where our three year old son is. He says, “In the garden, playing.” I run back and see my son playing as the lion crept up behind him and started biting him. As I open the door, the lion drops my son and growls at me while I pick up my son and bring him back inside. The image of how he looked was vivid; there was blood everywhere, one eye socket was gone and he was struggling to breath. I woke up crying. I am so scared. What does this mean?FELT HOW: Terrible, was crying and had difficulty going back to sleep.MAIN LIFE ISSUES: Finances, thinking of having another child, thinking about changing jobs. STORY LINE: Someone realizes what is most vulnerable and precious is under attack but manages to rescue it, though damage is done. SYMBOLS: Attacking Lion: A dangerous creature that is out of control.Back Yard: A situation or environment close to you.Three year old son: Something you’ve been dealing with for three years; what is most dear and precious and needs protection.WHAT IT MEANS:The end shows that you triumph over the crisis, though there is a struggle and damage is done. Most dreams are symbolic, though on occasion they are actual warnings. This dream is not about your son, though it can be wise to make sure he is not outside in a situation where an animal like a dog might attack. The dream is likely a heads up about something important like your job or finances. It is a heads up about an unexpected attack, as verbal accusations that could put your job or finances at risk. However, the dream tells you that if you fight the challenge, you will hold on to whatever is under attack. Make sure your job and your money is safe, not in a situation that someone could misuse and “take a bite out of” these, like stealing or false accusations.BOTTOM LINE: Your son is safe. Dreams exaggerate to get your attention. Your soul wanted to get your attention to warn you about a situation so that you can handle it. Stay vigilant and fight for what is yours, and you will win.DREAMER’S INPUT: Thank you so much, I feel a lot better.
ATTACK BY POLICE DOG. I dreamed I was standing with my two small kids, ages five and two and see a big police dog coming through. It looked threatening. I aimed at it, thinking to attack it back, if it tried to attack us. It growled then stopped in its tracks where it was standing. After a while it came back, barking and tying to get closer to where we were, but ended up not coming close.FELT HOW: Scared but in control.MAIN LIFE ISSUES: Currently church politics.STORY LINE: Facing a threat, someone makes a plan of how to protect vulnerable loved ones but does not need to use it and all is safe. SYMBOLS:Growling: Acting aggressive, threatening.Young children: Those who are helpless, those we care for.Police dog: Creature in the service of the law, enforcement of law, a metaphor for a legal issue that in this case feels threatening.Aiming at a target: A strategy, having a plan.Something stops: An ending; in this case, a threat is rebuffed.Barking: An unpleasant noise, getting attention in a negative way.WHAT THE DREAM MEANS:Dreams often exaggerate to make a point. The dream is a heads up about a challenge such as a disagreement. The growling dog can represent someone who may be verbally aggressive, dominating, and trying to get their way. Since it is a police dog, a legal aspect or doing something "the correct way" may be at issue and may feel daunting or threatening.Bottom Line: The end of a dream often shows the outcome. In this case, the aggressor backs down, so you win your point and get your way.
SAVING CHILD FROM ATTACK. My adult nephew had a scary dream about his little girl. A big owl was attacking, flying over him and trying to snatch his daughter from his arms. He was brave and strong and saved her, escaping the unexpected attack by the owl. My nephew now feels scared and unsafe for his family.FELT HOW: Scared.MAIN LIFE ISSUES: Nephew fears the dream may be a sign of divorce or has fears about separating from his daughter. He may get a job in another country for a while and be far from his little girl and his wife.STORY LINE: Someone saves someone precious from an unexpected attack.SYMBOLS:A big owl attacks: A threat that comes out of nowhere.Tries to take daughter: A loved one in jeopardy; danger. Was brave and strong: Rising to the occasion; showing character.Saves daughter: Becomes a hero; doing the right thing.Escape from an unexpected attack: A problem finds a way out.Feel scared and unsafe: How life feels at the moment. WHAT THE DREAM MEANS:When a dream portrays someone as a hero, it is generally a message that someone is growing in grace and strength and becoming more mature. If your nephew has to go to another country for a job temporarily, he must feel pressure and anxiety for his family. The dream is an encouragement. It tells him to do what he must, to support and help his family.BOTTOM LINE: The dream does not speak of harm to the family or of divorce. It tells your nephew it is okay to go to another country to earn what he needs. SOMEONE ATTACKS & SHOOTS. Me and my sister were at a friend’s house, talking. Then her boyfriend came from nowhere, shouting at her and talking crazy. I ask her why she put up with him, saying he is stupid and ignorant. He comes back around with boots throwed across his shoulder. I tell him, "Hit me with them, I’m not scared to call the police", and he threw the boots at me as I was reaching for my cell phone. Then he pulled out a gun; I signal my sister to go to the car and get my gun, and he starts shooting at me. I run to my car, snatch my purse from my sister, and try to load my gun. As I do that, he starts shooting at my sister, but his gun had no bullets. I told him to stop; he comes over, points gun at me and pulls the trigger. I threw my gun to my sister, but it dropped on the ground and slid under a car.FELT HOW: Like OMG, what does this mean?MAIN LIFE ISSUES: Going through a divorceSTORY LINE: A fight and aggression gets worse and worse and gets out of control.SYMBOLS:Gun: Danger; negative forces; a metaphor for angry words. Shooting a gun: Trying to do harm or defend self.Call Police: Engage the law, do what is right. WHAT IT MEANS:The dream is a mirror about what is going on in your life. The divorce you are going probably through feels like confrontation and a dangerous fight. The dream is trying to help you digest the tension and emotions. It also shows you as a participant in act aggressively, even though you are trying to defend yourself. BOTTOM LINE: The divorce is a fight that keeps getting worse, which the dream mirrors; the message also invites you to look at whether that's how you want to act. ATTACKED BY EX-FIANCÉ. I was at a friend's house, hanging out with her and her husband. She left go get us ice cream. I'm talking to her husband when someone starts pounding on the door. The husband peeks out and says, "you better hide." I ask why. He says, "your ex is here." It was an ex-boyfriend who in real life threatened to cut my head off if he ever found out I was cheating (which I was). I run and hide, my friend's husband tries to convince him I wasn't there. All of a sudden someone from college years appears in front of the closet where I am hiding; it’s the ex who got away, someone I loved for years but never dated. He looks at me with sympathy and silently urges me to see my ex. I nod and all of a sudden, my ex is there with his arms around me, not angry any more; I stay withdrawn and frozen. He begs someone to erase our memories.FELT HOW: Frightened, overwhelmed.MAIN LIFE ISSUES: Unemployed, ended a five year relationship eight months ago with this ex and had dreams about him since we broke. In some dreams, he wins me back only to cheat on me which he never did in real life. In other dreams he attacks me or appears out of nowhere, like this one.STORY LINE: It’s a story of running from what one fears, then facing those fears and discovering there is nothing to fear. SYMBOLS:Ex boyfriend: Someone from the past whose memories affect you.Hiding from ex: Trying to get repress the past, run from the past.Ex who got away: Something one would have liked to hold on to.Ex no longer angry: Reactions not what one expected; an example of letting go of negative emotions and memories.Asked to erase memories: A plea to let go of the past, an invitation to start fresh. I stay withdrawn and frozen: Not reacting, not reciprocating something positive. What the dream Means:The dream is telling you that although you’ve been on an emotional roller coaster, the ride is over and you can let go of the past. Being frozen in the dream and unable to accept his forgiveness and love indicates you are reluctant to let go.BOTTOM LINE: The dream invites you to free yourself from the drama that revolved around your ex. Doing so can free your energy for constructive pursuits. The only person blocking your way is you.
