Dreams About Work, Career,
and Achieving Success
THE SHOWGIRL VERSUS THE GIRL NEXT DOOR—THE DREAM:
The dream starts with me in a relationship with an unknown, long-haired girl who has blue hair, and we are very happy. We live in a city and she works in a nightclub as showgirl, but her only job is to serve drinks in a cocktail dress. Something happens and she and a few other girls are kidnapped. I join a search group. We find the man and chase him but are not fast enough to catch him. Just as the kidnapper is about to escape, the group leader sprints and catches him. As we confront him, the criminal returns all the girls except the blue-haired girl, but somehow, I do not feel sad or angry that she is still gone. But I do feel sad because, for some reason, I think she is involved with another man.
Suddenly I am in a room with a short-haired girl with brown hair who talks to me as if we are friends. She is sad as she confesses a secret affection for me. I explain that the blue haired girl and I are together and apologize for making her feel sad. As I sit beside her, I reach out to give her a hug but end up just hugging her arm. She comments that the blue haired girl is a 'show girl' as if that explains why she has a 'cheating mentality'. I decide that if blue haired girl is cheating, I will choose this auburn haired girl instead, because she would be more faithful. Nevertheless, the thought of being betrayed and left by the blue haired girl breaks my heart. I wake up before I can confront the blue haired girl.
FELT HOW: Weepy.
MAIN LIFE ISSUES: Depression and trust issues.
STORY LINE: Someone helps those in need and must choose between what is unique and glamorous yet troublesome, versus what is normal but steadfast.
Being in a relationship: A commitment, a partnership or deal.
Blue hair: Someone unique; a metaphor for creativity or originality.
A showgirl: A trophy; someone for whom appearances are very important.
Serving drinks: Work that appears exciting but is not important.
Cheating on someone, being unfaithful: Not delivering what was promised, no long-term benefits.
Brown hair, a brown-haired girl: What is normal and less exciting yet brings more benefits.
WHAT IT MEANS:
Whatever your issues, the dream asks you to examine what you value, what you want, and why you want it. Do you want life as a troublesome showpiece or a more normal version with long term dividends? The dream suggests that once your values are sound, you can create a successful and happy life.
BOTTOM LINE: At age 23, feeling sad about losing what is glamorous hints at a need to let go of unrealistic or childish expectations. It is an invitation to create realistic goals. The path that appears hum-drum and less glamorous is the one that in the long run, brings satisfaction.
Thank you. The interpretation sheds light on issues that have been on my mind. You put my mind at ease and helped me realize that, deep down, I already knew what paths are right for me.
MY MOTHER’S LEG IS TWISTED—THE DREAM:
I saw my mom running around a large object. Later in the dream, one of her legs is broken and her body is injured, yet she is still running. I clearly see that her elbow is disjointed from her arm and her foot is twisting left. I feel pain for her but cannot stop her from running.
FELT HOW: Tense.

Mother: A caretaker, someone who nurtures others; often a role model for a daughter as is the case in this dream.
Running: Expending energy, trying to move forward quickly.
A broken leg: Challenges in mobility, difficulty moving forward; something that can hold one back, slow things down.
Injured: Something that caused distress or pain; something that needs care and attention.
Disjointed: Something disconnected, out of line; in this case, likely mirrors dreamer’s progress is not what they want.
Twisted leg: A leg provides support to the body and twisted is a metaphor of not having the stability or security one seeks or wants.
WHAT IT MEANS: Dreams often exaggerate to make a point. Your mother is a symbol of someone who perseveres beyond all odds, ignores the pain and demonstrates courage and strength, despite overwhelming obstacles. The dream tells you that even though your career feels difficult right now, you must keep going.
BOTTOM LINE: The dream is an encouragement to find your strength and power, even though things are currently painful and difficult.
SWIMMING AT THE ZOO—THE DREAM:
I was walking around Denver, Colorado with my grandparents. Then I was at the zoo, in the water with classmates; the water was like a hot tub with large rocks throughout. People were diving to go down somewhere, as of there was an outlet underneath. In the last part, I was the last one in the water and there was a laptop, the same as one I use now. I drowned the laptop then pulled it out of the water and took it to show someone. Half of the screen did not get wet because it was floating and I couldn't push it all the way under, and it was still working.
FELT HOW: Impassive, nonchalant.
LIFE ISSUES: Money, relaxation, peace, friendship.
STORY LINE: (a) Someone sees a deep exploration; and (b), someone immerses something of value which should destroy it, but half remains okay.
Diving into water: digging deep, exploring, searching for what’s new.
Computer: Gateway to the world.
WHAT IT MEANS:
The story is a about exploration and trying out new ideas. As a nineteen-year-old, the computer is a metaphor for a hobby or interests as career directions that allow you to explore ideas and access the world. Part one sounds like encouragement to investigate whatever is of interest. Part two, the half drowned computer, sounds like you might want to try out an idea or career direction as volunteer work and learn from it. The water image suggests that you tend to put a lot of heart and energy into the project and whatever is of interest. Good for you.
BOTTOM LINE: The dream encourages you to explore ideas and directions for invention, research, or whatever is of interest which may end up being career directions as a journey you enjoy, like fun at the Zoo.
MOM SAYS ALL WILL BE WELL—THE DREAM:
I get out of the car and start to walk away with my work briefcase and chess bag. My mom is in a convertible and she is very happy. She tells me she is so happy because I finally have what I've been working for and says everything will be fine, smiling broadly. I lean over to kiss her on the cheek; she stands and says, " I am so proud of you; you will be married in three years," then nods in approval. I woke up immediately and could not go back to sleep.
FELT HOW: Feeling of freedom that was hard to cope with because it seemed unbelievable. My mother is alive and well and I am married.
MAIN LIFE ISSUES: Finances, relationships, purposeful work.
STORY LINE: Someone receives support and great news.
Briefcase: As a prop in the opening scene, the briefcase reveals the dream is about work and career issues.
Chess set: Chess is a game that requires strategy, a metaphor for the strategies in your head about career options.
Mom appears: In this dream, your mother is a symbol of someone you love who wants the best for you; represents your inner voice.
Convertible model of car: A convertible is a status symbol and a metaphor of being free and enjoying life, feelings a career that you love would give you.
Three years: The mention of three years is a time marker of when a radical change in career will take place.
Mother’s words “you will marry in three years”: Marriage is a symbol of a long term commitment and in this case predicts that the meaningful work you seek will happen in three years.
WHAT IT MEANS:
Since you are already married, the dream is not about getting married. Instead, because a lot of the images relate to work (briefcase, chess moves), the dream is about your work and career, which is on your mind.
The dream is an ESP prediction that you will get a new career as work that is much more meaningful. Receiving an actual time frame in a dream is very rare, but when one appears, such as the three year marker in your dream, it tends to be extremely accurate.
BOTTOM LINE: The dream tells you that in three years, you will find your heart’s content in your career. Till then, be patient. Wherever you are, you are learning something, even if it is how you don't want to see things done.
THE RAINBOW IN A NIGHT SKY—THE DREAM:
I was performing magic by using my thoughts to make objects appear in front of me. I made a rainbow appear in the night sky, it was brightly colored. The next thing I knew I found myself at a music festival with my family. A male friend walked toward me, held the sides of my face and gently kissed me on the lips. I kissed him back and felt happy.
FELT HOW: Happy.
MAIN LIFE ISSUES: Haven’t been happy recently.
STORY LINE: Someone is creative and as a result, finds fun, love and happiness.
Performing magic: Making things happen; a metaphor for believing in oneself, in one’s own powers.
Make objects appear: A reminder that you create your own life and reality, and an invitation to create what is beautiful.
Rainbow: A thing of beauty that appears after a storm. Also, a metaphor for diversity and appreciating the "many colors" of life.

WHAT IT MEANS:
A rainbow is a thing of beauty that appears after a storm, suggesting that it is important to keep the faith that things will clear up in your life and good things will happen again. In the dream, you create something beautiful. That hints you may have creative abilities you may not be using, and that doing so would bring joy.
The kiss by a male friend is interesting. If you are unattached, it can be a heads up that love will enter your life. Or, sometimes a male figure is a symbol of your own strength, which can help you find happiness.
BOTTOM LINE: Be true to yourself, discover your creativity and create the life you want. That will bring happiness, like the bright colored rainbow.
