Attacked on a School Bus
School Bus Nightmare
I'm walking home from a check up at a hospital and am fine, normal. I walk through a short tunnel and am mugged by three guys holding weapons; they are angry when they find my wallet is empty. I diffuse the situation by striking a deal that I will return and bring them dinner if they let me go unharmed, and continue walking.
My parents drive up beside me in a yellow school bus; dad is the driver and mom sits in the front passenger seat. I get in and sit in the first row behind dad; I don't want to frighten them so I don't tell them about the mugging, but tell dad to avoid the tunnel. As we get near the hospital, a masked gunman highjacks the bus and forces dad into the seat beside me; dad is at the window and I'm in the aisle seat, slumped down in fear. The gunman is agitated, talks loud but hasn't started to drive. Dad whispers in my ear to reach my foot forward and floor the gas pedal in hopes of catching the gunman off guard. It doesn't make sense, there is no way I can reach the gas pedal from my seat but I do it anyway, which angers the gunman. He begins waving the gun at my mom.
I yell, "Don't you dare shoot my mom!" but he shoots her three times. Dad leans into me and whispers, "Sorry kid, looks like you're the only one who is going to get out alive." The gunman then turns and shoots my dad. I wake up in a cold sweat and feel paralyzed, afraid to move.
Main Life Issues:
At age twenty six, family struggles because I don't live up to their fundamentalist Christian standards.
The dream is a story about fierce confrontations and despite a bit of help and support, only one survives.
Weapons, Guns and Mugging: Symbols of angry confrontation.
Death: Generally a symbol for change, huge change.
What it Means:
Dreams exaggerate to make a point, as a story about verbal and emotional confrontation. The dream is a parable about you and your family, related to the differences in beliefs. It tells you they will continue to confront you with angry words and emotions, because the anger goes very deep.
In the dream, your dad may be your actual father, indicating he has a secret sympathy for you and wants you to be happy, despite differences. Or your dad may represent your own strength and initiative, in which case, your soul is whispering to you, to save yourself.
The end of a dream often contains advice for the future. The final scene about death and escape tells you that change is that answer: you need to get away and you will be fine.
Bottom Line: The dream tells you that the solution is to go your own way, and it will be okay. Trust your instincts and create a new life with outlook and beliefs that are right for you.
